Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was a big departure from Respawn Entertainment's past shooter work, switching to third-person action with Souls-like progression. The game reviewed well and even managed to outsell Electronic Arts' expectations, but it also featured several bugs that kept it from complete greatness.

Speaking to US Gamer after the DICE Awards, Respawn CEO Vince Zampella said the studio considered delaying the game to deal with its bugs, but it ultimately needed to be out for the holiday.

Now Playing: Jedi: Fallen Order Kept In Bugs To Release In Time For The Holiday - GS News Update

"It's a game that really fits that timeframe," Zampella added, referring to the Star Wars onslaught that came in late 2019 with The Mandalorian and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Bugs ranged from potentially game-breaking jumps to visual issues that are unexpected in a Respawn game, as the developer is known for its polish with Titanfall 2 and Apex Legends.

Despite the rough edges, however, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order did an excellent job of blending genres. Its Souls-like progression is combined with Uncharted-like traversal and plenty of Star Wars fan service to give the game its own identity. In GameSpot's Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order review, Phil Hornshaw said it "becomes perhaps the strongest conception of what playing as a Jedi Knight ought to really be like."

The game's indentity includes a story that feels like it belongs in the larger Star Wars lore, helping to bridge the gap between the prequel trilogy and the original film.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is available for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
