Genshin Impact Getting Multi-Layered Map, Preoccupied Quest NPCs

HoYoVerse released a new Developers Discussion post on HoYoLab to discuss changes to the map and Quest system in Genshin Impact. Adjustments will include how the game tracks Quests on the map. There will also be optimizations in how the game handles prerequisite quests. Perhaps most importantly, a multi-layered map is finally coming to Genshin Impact and there’ll be some way to handle “preoccupied” NPCs holding up quests.

The multi-Layered map will appear in Genshin Impact Version 4.0. This will allow players to see underground areas in regions such as Sumeru, which has an abundance of caves and tombs underneath the surface. You will be able to toggle through multiple layers through the map.

Most of the future changes have to do with the Quest system though. When you’re within a certain distance of the objective, you can press Navigate to orient yourself. There will also be an auto-track function so that when you finish a Commission Quest, it’ll automatically mark your next one. It will choose based on factors such as proximity. There will also be some optimizations when it comes to the red indicator dots. All of these changes to the Quest system will be after Genshin Impact Version 3.8.

However, the most important feature have to do with quests locked due to prerequisites. For example, if Dehya’s Story Quest is ongoing, then you might not be able to access another Quest when she’s there. A future update will add a more detailed redirection guide to resolve these issues. There will also be a two-step unlocking process for Story Quests. Right now, if you unlock Nahida’s Story Quest without actually planning to start it, for example, Nahida will be “preoccupied,” and thus make ongoing quests involving her unavailable.

Finally, HoYoVerse stated that it does not plan on making limited-time events a permanent fixture in the game. This is because there is not enough fleshed-out content to “support long-term gameplay experience” based on their evaluations. This was an issue that the development team discussed during launch though.

Genshin Impact is readily available for the PS4, PS5, Windows PC, and mobile devices.
